We’re delighted to announce that Vuyokazi (35) and her husband Dumisani Gqunta (35) are our #BONAWeddings winners for March. Theirs is a charming story about the power of love, patience and intimacy.
How they met
Vuyo and Dumisani met when they were both 21 ,in May 2004, in the streets of New Brighton in the Eastern Cape. They dated for seven years before deciding to take it to the next level.
The nerve-wrecking proposal
When asked about the special moment of the proposal, the blushing bride shares, ”He popped the question in 2006. We were on vacation in Durban, and busy making love ? He then waited nine months to get my big ‘YES’. He would come to my house everyday without fail to ask for my ‘YES’. He even went as far as dedicating a love song to me on Metro FM: ‘I was made to love you’ by Gerald Levert which became a very special song to us and we danced to it at the wedding reception… ”
Through thick and thin
It hasn’t been an easy road for Mr and Mrs Gqunta. When talking about the challenges that they have faced Mrs Vuyokazi Gqunta tells us, “Whooo! Where do I start? To mention a few[of the trials we have been through]: My husband losing his job, my husband being involved in a car accident and also losing our baby boy in 2015. It was not easy but with the support of the family and holding onto our faith in God, we believed that everything was going to pass. Funny enough, none of the incidents mentioned above made us drift apart. Instead, we became closer.”
Keeping things interesting
Mr Gqunta tells us how the couple keeps their flames of their love burning:” Spending more time together as a couple and not forgetting us in the midst of everything around us. Communicating whether it be verbally or through SMSes and emails. Not forgetting to profess our love to each other daily also makes a difference.”
Secret ingredients to a lasting and happy marriage
The Gquntas say they are happier than ever and say their tips for staying together are:
- Listening to each other.
- Playing with each other.
- Lots of love making
- Kindness towards each other
- Forgiveness!
Wedded bliss!
The smitten couple got married in their flat on the 2nd of July 2011 surrounded by a few friends and followed by dinner afterwards. Their wedding celebration was on the 18th of March 2016 in Port Elizabeth, where they were both born. It was a beautiful garden wedding in the backyard of the bride’s uncle which was very special for the bride since he raised her.
Congratulations to the happy couple! We wish them a lifetime of happiness and endless love!
