This May we are celebrating the powerful love story of Ackson King (28) & Zethembiso Faith Mwami (27). The love birds met in 2009 after Ackson moved to Standerton, from Pretoria, to study. Zethembiso reminisces “we met in church, and he actually had my number before our actual meeting. Initially, I was not eager to either talk to or meet up with him but love drew us together.

How they met
When we eventually did meet and I remember meeting a handsome, and ambitious young man who was (and still is) very hungry for spiritual growth and God, and that God-fearing heart melted my heart”
The couple had an on and off relationship in the early years of their courtship, especially because as Zethembiso says “I am a pastor’s child and dating was very restricted. It was only in 2013 that we began to take things seriously.”
The proposal
Ackson and Zethembiso dated for a few years before they considered marriage and Ackson made the move. “Well, I had 3 proposals – what can I say, I’m blessed! The first one was just him telling me in 2016 that he wanted his family to meet mine. Before I knew it, a letter came through to my family and the lobola negotiations were officially underway.
I always used to tell him that I longed for a romantic surprise proposal and Lord was your son listening! When the “traditional” proposal took place I thought there goes my fairy-tale proposal, but Ackson had something else planned. On 21 May 2016, he was graduating with his Bcom in Marketing, in Durban. He asked me to accompany him. His dad came down from Zambia and we drove to Durban. Ackson had insisted that I wear a certain outfit.
Ackson is a personal leadership author and does Public Speaking and upon arrival in Durban the day before the graduation, he said to me that the institution had asked that he speaks to fellow graduates. When it was his turn to receive his degree, the announcer said “Mr Mwami asked to say a few words after receiving his degree”.
Ackson took the mic in front of almost a thousand graduates and parents, and popped the question again! He said “I have come with a special lady and her name is Faith… I found Faith and I decided to marry her, so babe will you marry me?” I was so overwhelmed and amazed. He literally took the day where all attention was supposed to be on him and his achievement and gave that moment to me.”
The couple’s third engagement was during their official engagement ceremony where Ackson presented her with her engagement ring.
Saying “I do!”
The pair had their white wedding on 14 October 2017. The wedding was at Cradle of Life, in Badplaas, Mpumalanga. “Our wedding highlights were mostly the entire programme, the people who came to witness our union and our outfits, of course.”
5 secret ingredients for a lasting love:
1. Purpose
We are always grounded on the reason we got married. We always say we are married in community of Purpose.
2. Prayer
There is no better mental, soul and spiritual platform for transparency and intimacy than that of the time we spend praying with and for each other, together.
3. Playfulness
We always find moments where we just unleash the kids in us and play, whether it’s on a holiday or on the couch in our home.
4. Partnership
A partnership is not just about working together but working together towards a common goal with each other’s interests at heart.
5. Forgiveness
Forgiveness is one of the best keys to a sustainable marriage because we are different individuals and we are both not perfect.
