When it comes to make-up, no matter how good everything else may look, it means nothing if your face is caked with foundation that is not blended correctly or one that is the wrong shade for your skin tone.

Your make-up technique and the products you use need to adapt to your changing skin as you age and this definitely rings true for the foundation you choose. Our skin gets drier as we get older so using a powder foundation can make your skin look terribly flaky. Next time you need to buy make-up, go to the store with a clean face and ask the consultants to show you the magic of a good primer and either a liquid or cream foundation.

1. The ‘eyes’ have it:
- Do curl your lashes or treat yourself to a natural looking set of eyelash extensions
- Don’t overdo the eyeshadow – especially dark colours
- Do fill in your eyebrows and try to get them shaped by a pro every once in while

2. Eyeliner error! Lining your bottom lash line with dark eyeliner makes your eyes look smaller and according to the pros, it drags your whole face down. To make your eyes look brighter and ‘more open’ (youthful) try using a nude or a white liner – even using a dark brown eyeshadow (you’ll need an angled brush) is better than full-on black. Look …
3. Lips on point! Getting older also means thinning lips (sob!) and unless you go for lip fillers, there’s not much else you can do but roll with it. If you’ve found your lips are thinning, STAY AWAY from dark coloured lipstick – this will only make your lips look thinner. Another make-up mistake to avoid is overdoing your lip liner and always remember to shade the lining in the direction of centre of the lips.

3. Blush. If you’re still applying your blush to the apples of your cheeks – stop! Rather, focus on your upper cheekbones for a wonderful, lifting effect.
