Dawn believes #YouGotThis
Today’s world is tough and there are many hardships that young woman face. These hardships can impact both their physical and mental wellbeing. Because of these challenges the young women’s confidence may be dented and they may have a lack of motivation to truly step up and be all that they can be. What is needed in these times is support from someone who won’t give up on you and will stand beside you. In short, a mentor. Having a mentor can make all the difference in developing the confidence and tools you need to tackle the world and all its challenges.
Dawn knows this and that is why they have launched the #YouGotThis campaign. This campaign is aimed at empowering the young women of Mzansi with confidence, inspiration and the necessary mentorship to help them progress in their lives and reach their goals. Through this campaign, Dawn hopes to create a sisterhood of support and upliftment for the young women of South Africa.
“Mentoring has the power to effect meaningful and profound change, not only for mentors and mentees, but for society as a whole,” said Michelle Potter, co-founder and executive director of SAYes Mentoring.
Over 100 women attended the Dawn Mentor Meet-up in August 2017 to be inspired by some of the country’s most influential women. The young women are now able to translate this inspiration into their own lives and to make the most of every moment in order to reach their goals.
“You’ll never know how much this means to someone who needed someone to believe in them, Dawn. Thank you so much.” – Nontokozo Ntuli

A celebration of confidence
In August, over 100 women, selected by Dawn through the #YouGotThis competition, attended the first Dawn Mentor Meet-up at Shine Studios in Johannesburg.
The stunning Jozi skyline was the perfect setting for an inspirational event where influential women shared the stage to reveal their secrets of success.
‘Presenting Your Best Self’
The first workshop was titled ‘Presenting your Best Self’ and was presented by celebrity make-up artist Merlene Williams, The Image Firm Founder, Doris Msibi and psychologist Tshepiso Matenjie. Next the guests heard from respected businesswomen Phuti Mahanyele and Allegro Dinkwanyane discussing ‘Selling yourself as a Brand’.
NGO, SAYes Mentoring discussed the role and benefits of mentorship and DJ Zinhle shared her own inspirational story of success, adding: “Having a plan guides your effort. Have a plan, a vision board, write it down. Think about it all the time. Dream about it. When you have a plan, you are able to say no to things that don’t fit into your plan.”
Dream Big, Achieve Big
Through the Dawn #YouGotThis campaign, Dawn has taken upon itself to facilitate long-term mentorships of 11 young women. They are Amu Hlabano, Eviwe Sijula, Jessica Mahlekisi, Koketso B Mokoena, Lungelo Shezi, Nokuphiwa Xulu, Nontokozo Ntuli, Nthabiseng Mokhothu, Precious Pitjeng, Rebone Maputla and Tsholofelo Kwakwa. Hearing how the speakers were able to reach their dreams, showed all the attendees how they are also able to dream big, achieve big, and reach the top.
Rebone Maputla, one of the 11 women chosen, said, “I’m so excited about this opportunity. I am looking forward to learning from someone who’s been through all the challenges I’m about to face, learning new skills and tricks of my industry. I can’t wait.”
The day ended on a celebratory note as guests mingled with the speakers while DJ Zinhle got the ladies on their feet.

Presenting your best self
Good mentorship is all about one person sharing their life experiences and unique skills and knowledge to empower another. At the recent Dawn Mentor Meet-Up, we heard from influential women and experts in the field of personal image – International celebrity make-up artist Merlene Williams, Educational psychologist and Life Coach Tshepiso Matentjie and Founder and CEO of The Image Firm Doris Msibi.
They shared their valuable advice and insights on how the right personal image and body language can make all the difference when presenting yourself to the world, both in business and in life.
POSITIVE BODY IMAGE
“Focus on what you love about your body to help boost your confidence, emotionally and physically. If there are things that you don’t like about your body, adjust them, work around them and focus on the positive,” Merlene Williams.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT
We make the first impression with how we look – from our shoes to our shoulders, it’s important to make that impression positive, especially in a job interview. “Before an interview, research the company to better understand their culture and dress code. If it’s corporate, then dress that way. Keep it simple with a skirt suit, don’t over-accessorise and look formal with basic make-up, neat hair and a low to medium heel with a pointed toe.” Doris Msibi.
ENHANCE YOUR BEAUTY
Merlene advises that your make-up should complete and complement your look, and not steal away from it. “The role of make-up is not to hide your natural face but to enhance your beautiful features so that the focus can be on what you have to offer. Do that by keeping it simple. Less is always more. Be careful to keep it neat and tidy when applying your make-up so that when you are up close and personal with someone, you still look presentable.” Ensure you always glow with beauty and confidence by moisturising with your favourite Dawn hand & body lotion, for 24 hours of moisturisation.
BE PRESENT IN THE MOMENT
Tshepiso Matentjie believes that it all starts with mindfulness. Being present in the moment will help you to achieve greatness. “Often, we rush through the moment, missing the opportunities that present themselves in everyday life. What was supposed to motivate and inspire us is lost because we were too busy thinking about tomorrow.”

5 THINGS YOUR SKIN NEEDS TO BE HEALTHY
Dawn lets you celebrate your natural, glowing skin with their vitamin A, E, and glycerine enriched body lotions. But do you know how important these two vitamins really are for your skin? Read on to find out.
Vitamin A
Vitamin A is necessary to keep your skin healthy and may also help to soothe some common skin complaints. Having too little vitamin A can leave your skin dry and flaky. And even better than that? Vitamin A has some anti-ageing effects on skin as well.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is an antioxidant and is essential for boosting skin health. Vitamin E also helps to protect the skin against the sun’s harmful rays as it may absorb some of the energy from ultraviolet (UV) light. Used in a cream or lotion – like that of Dawn – you will find that your skin’s dry, or rough texture will be soothed and your skin’s true beauty will be revealed.
Water intake
Your skin is a reflection of all that is going on within your body. So, when you are dehydrated, it will also show on your skin – not to mention the other symptoms you may get from not drinking enough water! Make sure that you are hydrated by drinking about 8 glasses of water throughout the day. Remember that, when you are thirsty, it means that you are already dehydrated. So drink water in advance and don’t wait until you are thirsty.
Moisturisation
The glycerine in Dawn’s body lotions locks in the moisture of your skin all day, making it glow. Because of the glycerine, you won’t have to apply the lotion again and again during the day, except if you go swimming. Remember to then wash chlorine or salt from your skin as soon as possible and lock in moisture for the rest of the day by using an enriched body lotion.
Healthy eating
Keeping to a healthy diet is not just important to keep those extra kilos off, but also so keep your skin looking its best. Fresh fruit and vegetables will give you the vitamins and minerals and minerals your body needs to make your skin beautiful from the inside out.
