Oscar-winning director Jordan Peele has made history with his second directorial movie, Us. The horror movie, starring Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke made a record-breaking $70 million (R1 billion) on its opening weekend breaking horror movie records. The star surpassed his 2017 hit movie, Get Out, earning him the third best opening horror opening of all time.
Speaking to Essence, Jordan shared why he wanted black audiences to see the movie first saying in part, “I make these [Black horror] movies because I want to push the boundaries of representation in my favorite genre. If a version went out there into the world without Black people seeing it first, I would’ve had a problem. It doesn’t make sense to me.”
Jordan Peele’s Us breaks horror movie records. Congratulations on the feat!
