Actress Zikhona Bali chats to us about her leading role on Ambitions, the new drama series on eExtra. By Kwanele Mathebula
This is my first time playing lead in a drama series. I play lead character, Qhawe Ledwaba, a young investigative journalist who comes across a career-making story. The challenge of playing a lead character drew me to the show. I am excited to have been given the opportunity to portray a young and powerful black woman. I enjoy watching black women being superheroes.

It took three months to shoot the show. I experienced every emotion I could imagine while shooting the show; from nerves to excitement. Because of the subject line of the story and its relevance to South Africa, I also took the time to prepare and make sure I arrived on set ready to give it my best. I tried to be present at all times.
I love that my character is dynamic. Outside of work, Qhawe is also a mother and is finding her way through motherhood. There’s also a love triangle with her that audiences will be shocked to find out about.

What I hope that viewers learn from the show is that nothing goes unnoticed. I hope they learn that greed and power have the ability to destroy people and communities.
Ambitions airs at 9pm every Sunday and repeats every Wednesday at 9:30pm on eExtra on OpenView (Channel 105) and DStv (Channel 195).
