Nadia Nakai and Siyabonga Scoop Ngwekazi are set to host a brand new hip hop music series on MTV Base titled Yo! MTV Raps Africa. The series is a spinoff of the groundbreaking American hip-hop franchise which debuted in August 1988 where legendary hip hop crew RUN DMC interviewed stars such as Ice Cube, Biggie, Tupac, Mary J Blige and the Wu-Tang Clan which saw the revolution of hip hop finally televised.
The local version will have nine episodes in which local hip-hop such as artists Kwesta, Riky Rick, Sho Madjozi and Youngsta. The show will also tell stories and discover news and exciting trends in the local hip-hop scene.
Vice President of Youth, Music and BET at Viacom International Media Networks Africa (VIMN Africa) Monde Twala shared that “Yo! MTV Raps Africa” reflects our audience and serves as inspiration to elevate music and culture”, he said.
Yo! MTV Raps Africa will premiere at 6 pm on 25 April on MTV Base (DStv channel 322).
