Get ready to be treated to a musical and poetry feast by local and international artists including Eric Benet, Vusi Nova as well as former President Thabo Mbeki in a tribute to O.R. Tambo.
In what organisers hope will be dubbed the greatest art project for 2019, struggle icon Olivier Reginald Tambo will be commemorated in a double CD album consisting of music and spoken word poetry by local and international musicians, politicians, authors and poets.
The list of contributing artists to the project is endless.
SAMA award winning singer and songwriter Gloria Bosman has been chosen as the musical director of the project, while seasoned saxophonist McCoy Mrubata is the project’s producer.
Some of the major names on the project are President Thabo Mbeki who will perform with internationally acclaimed Ladysmith Black Mambazo, as well as legendary South African poet Mongane “Wally” Serote.
Project initiator and executive producer Wandile Yani says they took inspiration from the collaboration between Harry Belafonte and Miriam Makeba.
“The objective, really, of the unique project ‘Voices on OR: A musical Tribute for Oliver Tambo’ is to utilize music, art, poetry and storytelling to contribute in narrating the story of Tambo along with disseminating educational information on SA’s socio-political history, thus bridging the misunderstanding and knowledge gap between younger and older generations.”
We certainly can’t wait to be treated to the artistic feast.
