Buns with chakalaka mince filling
Prep time: 20 minutes plus 1½ hours rising time
Cooking time: 40 minutes
Makes: 12
- 2 cups SPAR Cake Wheat Flour
- 1 x 10g instant dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon SPAR White Sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (125ml) lukewarm water
- ¼ cup (65ml) SPAR Full Cream Fresh Milk, lukewarm
- 1 tablespoon SPAR Butter, melted plus extra for brushing
- 3 tablespoons sesame seeds
Filling
- 500g minced beef
- 2 tablespoons SPAR Butter
- ½ onion, finely chopped
- 1 x 410g can SPAR Hot & Spicy Chakalaka
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- ½ cup SPAR Cheddar Cheese, grated
Coleslaw
- 2 cups finely shredded cabbage
- 2 cups grated carrots
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1½ cups SPAR Original Mayonnaise
- In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Add water, milk and butter to form a soft dough. Place onto a floured surface and knead for about 6–8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl. Cover and leave in a warm place for about 1 hour to rise and double in size.
- Meanwhile, heat butter in a large frying pan. Fry onion and mince until browned. Add chakalaka, salt and pepper. Cover and cook over medium heat for 15 minutes. Stir in cheese, remove from heat and set aside to cool.
- Preheat oven to 180°C. Press dough down and divide into 12 pieces. Gently roll out each piece into a 12cm circle and place ¼ cup of filling at the centre. Fold over and seal the edges.
- Place on a greased baking tray, seam side down. Cover and place in a warm place to rise until doubled, about 30 minutes. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- For the coleslaw, toss and mix all ingredients in a bowl. Refrigerate before serving.
Pineapple smoothie
Prep time: 10 minutes
Serves: 4
- 1 x 410g can SPAR
Pineapple Pieces, including syrup
- 1 x 410g can SPAR Peach Slices, including syrup
- ¼ cup (65ml) SPAR Long Life Cream
- 1 cup (250ml) SPAR Fruit of Paradise Juice
- Place all ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth.
- Refrigerate until needed.
Strawberry smoothie
Prep time: 15 minutes
Serves: 4
- 150g fresh strawberries, diced
- 1 x 410g can SPAR Guava Halves, including juice
- ¼ cup pomegranate seeds, optional
- 2 cups (500ml) SPAR Strawberry Juice
- 3 tablespoons SPAR Golden Syrup
- Place all ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth.
- Refrigerate until needed.
