Our Digital Editor recently visited Life Grand Café at the Mall of Africa in Joburg and she thinks it’s a great place for a family lunch. Here’s why.
The Atmosphere
Restaurants that are usually situated in malls can be quite annoying. All those people walking past you and staring as you get your food down. So I was a little nervous as I made my way to Mall of Africa on a Friday afternoon. However, I needn’t have been. The restaurant is situated in an outside area outside that’s quite spacious and away from the crowds of shoppers.
Those inside the restaurant are mostly families that were shopping and are taking a break for some lunch. But this doesn’t mean that it’s cluttered with trolleys and shopping bags. It’s quite a clean and open space.
The Food
The menu is quite diverse. From pasta to sushi, steaks and seafood; the dishes try to cater for a range of tastes. I ordered the seared salmon and salad which was perfect for the hot day. It really was delightful. Fresh, juicy and tasty and the chef was able to make it raw enough for my liking while also cooking it. The servings are also great. I couldn’t even finish my waffles because they were so big, which is incredibly welcome in these times when restaurants like to serve tiny meals.
To Drink
The bar is stocked with most of the popular brands of alcohol, soft drinks and coffees. They also have an interesting array of healthy juices/smoothies.
Cost Factor
The prices are reasonable for what you’re getting. The servings are plentiful and the service is really amazing.
Perfect For
This restaurant is ideal for families who want to dine while shopping. It is at Mall of Africa which is a bit of a drive for those living outside of Midrand; I don’t think it’s worth the drive but if you live in the vicinity or are shopping there then definitely pop in.
