You can’t go wrong with a classic dombolo or steamed bread, and now you can update the classic with this delicious savoury take by Ntwenhle Gcabashe.

Serves: 5–6
- 4 cups self-raising flour
- 1 tablespoon castor sugar
- Salt and pepper
- ½ cup sundried tomatoes, chopped
- 1 cup ham, chopped
- 1 cup Cheddar cheese, grated
- 1 egg
- Handful fresh coriander, chopped
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) margarine, melted
- 1 cup (250ml) Amasi
Cheese and beetroot mini breads
- In a bowl, sift flour, sugar and salt. Mix well.
- Add sundried tomato, ham, cheese, egg, coriander, margarine and Amasi. Mix well to form soft dough.
- Transfer into a lightly greased bowl.
- Add water in large saucepan. Place the greased bowl inside. Cover with a lid, and cook for 1 hour.
- Serve
