This year the MTV VMAs were a big night for Rihanna. The star was being honoured with the Michael Jackson Vanguard award for her contribution to music over the years. She took to the stage to perform a medley of her dance hits.

On August 9, 1956 20 000 women courageously marched to the Union Buildings to protest the pass laws in South Africa. Each year we remember their efforts and those of many others by celebrating women’s month.
