melMelanie Fiona just released the video for her new song, I tried off the upcoming album Awake. In it she focuses on social ills like domestic abuse, rape and police brutality. The singer had this to say about the video to TheYBF:

“It is important for me to channel the ideas and concepts I am passionate about into my music and my art… As an artist with a social platform, I feel it is my responsibility to do so. The video for ‘I Tried’ is a tribute to the fight in which we all witness and experience both internally and externally in the world daily. The conversation of important issues should not end when we turn the TV off. I hope this visual sparks emotion, thought, dialogue, reflection, and ultimately, positive change,”

An Unforgettable Bus Trip
The excitement did not end there. An even bigger surprise lay in store for 180 lucky ticket holders who were treated to a VIP bus trip home with the gospel stars singing for them!

To give back to their consumers in KwaMashu, Sunlight embarked on yet another surprise for this community, a brand new bus shelter to protect bus users from the elements while waiting for public transport.

The Sunlight bus shelter is the first of its kind in South Africa. It boasts solar power as well as the ability to play music allowing commuters the opportunity to be their own DJ by choosing songs from the Sunlight song list.

Watch this behind-the-scenes video from our Lerato Kganyago cover shoot and then read what our features editor Phila Tyekana had to say about the interview.

Why Lerato?

It seems she’s having the year of her life! It’s as if something was holding her back somehow in the past and now she’s decided to let go of it and start living. It’s all evident in the work she’s doing; joining Metro FM, Muvhango, pursuing being a House DJ, her gig on Ebony Life TV, Moments SA and looking content with herself. We had to celebrate that as the magazine.

What was her reaction to being on Bona magazine?

Her first cover ever was with us in 2013 and so we had to pick things up from our last conversation and she was only glad to share her life now with us and our readers.

It’s her second cover with you, how different is she now?

Despite her flourishing career she’s grown mentally too and come into her own and her confidence is evident.

How was it like interviewing her?

A lot of people misunderstand Lerato as feisty but she’s the sweetest and very honest with her truth. She’s hilarious too with a witty sense of humour. Don’t get me wrong, she won’t ever back down from a fight nor is she afraid to quickly put you in your place if you step on her toes.

How was she at the photo shoot?

Professional, fun and easy.

What was the inspiration behind the November cover shoot?

Lerato is known for her glamzon style of dress, so we continued with the glam effect for the cover theme.

What can readers expect from the story?

Honesty from the cover star about how appreciative she is about coming this far in the entertainment industry and the challenges she’s faced with both herself and fans in her journey of success. She also speaks for the first time about her breakup with soccer star, Katlego Mashego.
