American singer, Ciara is ready to get the world dancing again with her new track titled Freak Me. To tease the release of the music video, Ciara has shared a clip of her dancing to the single in Soweto
South Africa is well and truly on the map. The likes of Coldplay, Jonas Blue, Drake and Solange have all shot music videos in South Africa over the past few years and now Ciara has added her name to this prestigious list.
Although the official video for Ciara’s second 2018 single, Freak Me has yet to be released, the singer confirmed that she had filmed the visuals in Soweto and had worked with a number of local creatives in doing so.
The song, Freak Me, features Nigerian singer, Tekno, and rides on a rhythmic bed of afrobeat percussion. According to Ciara, the song was produced in part by Black Coffee’s record label, Soulistic Music.
The video itself is a colourful affair, featuring swathes of beautiful people dancing along with the American singer. Multi-skilled creative, Trevor Stuurman, worked with super designer, Rich Mnisi to style Ciara for the video while director, Sino Dunywa, was in charge of choreography.
Ciara wasted no time in sharing multiple clips online, showing love to South Africa’s most famous township – Soweto.

The video quickly caught the attention of South African fans. Those from Soweto were not only proud to recognise their neighbourhood, but to see Ciara adopting many of our famous dances – including, of course, the Gwara Gwara.

Drake has finally dropped the visuals for his popular song In My Feelings after it gained popularity through the #InMyFeelingsChallenge. The seven minute long video was shot in New Orleans, and features celeb cameas from Lala Anthony, Phylicia Rashad, and the Siggy who made the challenge go viral on social media.

Fresh from winning the Top Rap Female award at the Billboard Music Awards, Cardi B released the video for her third single Be Careful off her successful debut album Invasion of Privacy. Cardi shared on her social media that shooting the video in the desert took a toll on her as she is pregnant and experienced a lot of sweating due to the hot weather.
The video is set in a deserted church and starts off with Cardi in a wedding dress and looks to be getting married. It then takes a dark turn when it fast forwards and her husband is lying in a casket.

American actor Jussie Smollett has premiered the video for his new song Hurt People, which was shot in Soweto, South Africa
The Empire actor visited South Africa in December to shoot the video, which stars a very pregnant Nkateko ‘Takkies’ Maswanganye.
The dancer took to Instagram shortly after the video was released to reveal that she was eight months pregnant at the time.
“So happy to see @jussiesmollett beautiful music video for HURT PEOPLE is out now.
“Was fun dancing when 8 months pregnant with @sanadinwiddy the end result is brilliant Plus I had the bonus of getting to work with the legendary creative director @frankgatson (sic),” she wrote on Instagram.
Jussie told Vogue magazine that the vision for his Hurt People video was influenced by Winnie and Nelson Mandela ability to turn “hurt into furthering the fight for power and love”
He says he knew when he wrote the song that he would shoot the video in South Africa.
“I knew the moment Jim Beanz and I wrote the song how I would visualise it.
“I said to him the night we recorded it: ‘I’m directing this and we’re shooting it in South Africa.’ I could see it in my head so clearly,” he told the publication.
Jussie says he enjoyed celebrating South Africa in the video
He says is particularly proud that he only used South African talent for the shoot. Every artist, musician, crew member and designer who worked on the video if from SA.
“I think – as our mother – Africa should be celebrated. Africa is the original. The prototype. As are its people. When I think of someone who was consistently attacked and could’ve given in it’s Nelson and Winnie Mandela. This video is completely inspired by them.”
Singer Janelle Monáe just served us pink goals and we’re eating it all up! She released the video for her third single Pynk from her upcoming album Django Jane in which she wears ruffled pants that suggest the female anatomy. We’re obsessed!
