Unfortunately, returning to work looms at the end of the holiday season, threatening to ruin all of your good vibes. Do you remember loving your job before your break but finding it difficult to get through the day when you return? We feel you! According to Ashira Prossack of Forbes, a communication trainer and coach – everyone else is probably feeling exactly the way you are, so it’s okay to take a little bit longer to ease back into things again. Here are some tips to help you ease right back into work.
Prepare the night before
Your first day back at work begins the night before. Pick out an outfit, iron, pack your work bag and pack some lunch. Doing these tasks the night before will eliminate any getting ready overwhelm in the morning. We all know having a good morning sets the tone for your day.
Check your calendar
Examine your calendar the day before you return to work to avoid being caught off guard by unexpected meetings. If you come across any unexpected surprises, examine them one by one to see if you can attend them with minimal preparation. Consider whether they can be pushed back so that you can contribute meaningfully.
Do not try and tackle it all
While rejuvenation is an important part of any vacation, catching up on two weeks of work does not happen overnight. Instead, prioritize your tasks and set attainable goals. There’s no need to go home that first evening feeling like you need another vacation! Set yourself up for success before you even leave for vacation for the best results. Feeling overwhelmed is frequently the result of not knowing where to begin.
Make a plan for the day
Determine which tasks must be completed and then prioritise them. Keep this list visible throughout the day so you can refer to it as needed. When you have a plan for your workday, it is much easier to get back on track when your mind wanders.
