We sit down with Miss Mamelodi Sundowns 2016 contestant Vanessa Plaatjie, who has opened her own nail boutique called Vee Rose Gold.

1.Who is Vanessa and how did you start your nail business?
I am a self-taught nail technician. I started my business with R300, which I used to buy a nail kit. I started doing nails in and around the community back home in North West. I was crowned Miss North West in 2013 and Miss Mamelodi Sundowns North West province in 2015. I used the money I got to boost my business.
2. What inspired you to stay motivated?
I was fortunate to travel to Las Vegas as part of team South Africa to compete in the Global Beauty Master competition. Seeing how passionate people are on an international scale kept me going. The experience showed me how other people challenge themselves through their work.
3. What sets you apart from other nail bars?
I treasure client service and believe in consistency in my service. I believe in giving people an experience that makes them feel at home and want to come back. I don’t just do nails – I pamper my clients with a mini massage, scrub and mani or pedi.

4. What nail services do you provide?
I specialise in acrylic, gel, bio sculpture, sculpture and pedicures.
5. How do you help your clients to better themselves?
My aim is to get their nails to a healthy state. A lot of clients come to me with complains that most salons damage their nails, and leave them fragile and brittle.
I always work for the best hygiene to avoid fungal infections and unhealthy nails. My clientele includes celebrities, such as DJ Zinhle.
