Stand-up comedian and actor Ntosh Madlingozi tells us about his love for comedy. By Fundiswa Nkwanyana
I really enjoy making people laugh. I also appreciate that they laugh with me. I love the fact that when I’m on stage, I have the power to control the audience’s emotions with what I say. I like seeing their facial expressions and reactions. I really just love my job.
Dealing with a crowd that does not find my jokes funny is tricky. When this happens, I try to rearrange my jokes to suit the type of people I’m performing for. If this fails, my exit strategy is thanking them for their time and walking off the stage before it gets worse.

I’m excited to be part of the upcoming Blacks Only Comedy Show. I’m eager to be part of it because it is similar to a comedy institution as it has been around for 14 years. I can’t wait to get on stage and entertain the crowd because it’s been eight years since I was part of this comedy showcase. People can expect fireworks!
My advice for upcoming comedians is to learn from other comedians. It is important that they see what we are doing, and try to do better by incorporating their own style. Once they have done this, they need to follow their instincts and believe in themselves.
