Tlotliso Notrem owns the popular Tubb’s Car Wash in Bramley, Johannesburg. He chats to us about running the business and its recent achievement of being the Most Loved Local car wash. By Kwanele Mathebula
My passion for cars and people inspired me to open the car wash. I wanted to provide ??????? and to have a chill spot. I’ve always loved being social, so to have a carwash where people could hangout was a dream come true for me.

I borrowed R30 000 from my aunt to kickstart the business. I used the loan to get my business off the ground and spread the word about it in my community. Another strategy that I used to get customers was by throwing parties and events. The business then grew, and today we are South Africa’s Most Loved Local car wash.
The challenges of running this business are like any other. Making sure that we maintain high quality service isn’t easy, but the team and I strive to keep our customers happy. This is because we believe that they are at the core of the business. I always emphasise the importance of a returning customer to my staff because when they come back, it’s a sign that we are doing something right.

Hosting and catering for the who’s who of Johannesburg is a career highlight for me. From celebrities to soccer stars, I’m glad that we’re building a name for ourselves. Another milestone is that we’ve been in service for ten years, and although it hasn’t always been smooth sailing, it’s been an incredible feat.
